What is Malecón Dans and what does Malecón mean?
[Malecón Dans is the department of dance at Malecón school which was established in the year 2005, here teaches dance, music and spanish language among other subjects. At our school students participate in dance and music courses in Norway and Cuba or combine both of them as well as studies.
Malecón Dans deliver a solid course experience, so participants get to live something new, different, exciting and full of knowledge. We focus on quality and collaborate with some universities of great reputation.
Malecón:
Is a broad promenade, roadway and seawall which stretches for 8 km along the coast in Havana, Cuba. stripes like this finds in almost all cities facing the marine coast. It is Malecón where cubans go to draw air at night or to fish one Dorado. People visit Malecón for having a talk with friends, drink some rum, dance, read a book, a magazine or maybe share happiness with somebody we love.
From here we can see The Caribbean and The World. Like Isaac Delgado, we will always come back to Malecón.
This place is a point of meeting, communication and dance like most of Cuba is. We give our students a feeling of Malecón and this is the reason why we took this name.]

How many can participate in a dance course?
[Cuba:
- The number of participants in Cuba varies between minimum 1 and 6, maximum 30 and 100. Necessary amount specifies in each program that requires this.
Norway:
- We have minimum 10 students and maximum 20 per teaching hour, (evening courses) so students are followed tight by our instructors in order to get much more out of our courses. We focus on quality!.]

How long does a salsa course last?
[Cuba:
- A Salsa course in Cuba lasts from 1 week to 10 months, depending on the program you choose.
Norway:
- A regular course lasts from seven weeks to ten months, depending on the amount of courses you register for.]

Is it more expensive to pay in cash?
[Yes, it is. We have EFTPOS terminals so you make payment with Visa or Master Card at entrance, remember that it costs *25 nk extra.
- It costs *100 nk more when paying in cash.
- Registration and payment in advanced, students must show identity.
- Payment receipt shows the first day of class.
- If you decide to cancel your registration you will have to do this within 14 days before your courses start.]

How is the Cuban Salsa course organized?
[The Casino workshop has been organized in four learning levels: BEGINERS, INTERMEDIATE, INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED, AND ADVANCED, in order to facilitate differentiated groups, so the learners can interact with others who are at the same echelon.
The differences between levels are found primarily in the content of the programs, difficulty of the steps, variants, and figures. Each Workshop starts with the basic steps, reviewing quickly what have been learned previously, and rapidly incorporating new movements. These Workshops are conducted by a professor, and will count as well with instructor-dancers in the floor, who will practice the steps with the students.
- BEGINNERS I and II:
Those with no knowledge at all, or with a very elementary acquaintance with Casino will be grouped at he BEGINNERS level.
Contents: Basic step and variants (individual and couples); Figures; Introduction to the Rueda de Casino. Learning and realizing figures in la rueda.
- INTERMEDIATE I and II:
The INTERMEDIATE LEVEL will be formed by those with some knowledge of Casino, with interest in learning figures linked to the rueda de Casino.
Contents: Basic step and variants (individual and couples); Figures; Rueda de Casino. The most representative traditional figures and movements (vueltas) in independent couples.
- INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED I and II:
The INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED LEVEL will be formed by those who know how to dance Casino, with interest in improving their performance in the rueda de Casino and to prefect their abilities to improvise “Cuban style”.
Contents: Basic step and variants (individual and couples); figures, steps and variants in order to improvise individually, by couples or collectively; phrases for choreography “Cuban style”.
The Rueda de Casino. Most representative traditional figures and movements (vueltas), learned as independent couples in La Rueda.
- ADVANCED I and II:
The ADVANCED LEVEL will be formed by those who know how to dance Casino very well as free couples and in La Rueda, but with interest to master their domain of Casino, and to perfect their style.
Contents: Basic step and variants (individual and couples); figures, steps and variants decidedly complex and others recently created; phrases for choreography “Cuban style”; steps and variants explicitly destined to improvise collectively, by couple or individually.]

How is the Popular or XX Century Cuban Ballroom Dance course organized?
[The Popular or Cuban Ballroom Dance Workshop has been created for the learners to become skilled at the basic figures and steps of the main Cuban dances. All of them are but part of a lengthy sequence of dancing and musical styles, all of which silhouette our traditional popular culture. All of the included dances pertain to the XX Century due to the fact that the Casino dance was created based on them as most important pillars.

What's the content of the Afro-Cuban Folkloric Dance course?
[The content of the Afro-Cuban Dance course is:
- Santería or Regla de Ocha Dance:
Contents: All of the most important Afro-Cuban folkloric dances related to Santería or Regla de Ocha –a popular syncretic religion with Yoruba origins (West of Nigeria); and dances akin to the orichas or saints pertaining to this cult- will be taught.
Musicians will be performing live for the classes.

Regla de Palo Dance:
Contents: All of the most important Afro-Cuban folkloric dances related to Regla de Palo or Conga –a popular syncretic religion with Bantu origins (Congo, Angola, and Mozambique) - will be taught.

Complejo de la Rumba Dance:
Contents: This workshop will contain all of the dances pertaining to Complejo de la Rumba, a profane Cuban corporal expression, with African and Hispanic elements. All of the main Rumba stiles, like Yambu, Guaguanco and Columbia will be included.

What's the content of the Cuban Percussion, (Drums) course, (Music I)?
[Contents: To get acquainted with the Cuban music through colloquiums and auditions, from its beginnings thru the last tendencies. Demonstration of several instruments of Cuban percussion, and the way they are carried out. Playing of different Cuban rhythmic cells -performed by the students- while establishing different polyrhythms by clapping hands; corporal percussion; Improvisation.

[Contents: Introduction to the development of the Cuban music on its two variants: classic and popular. Interaction of the popular and classical music thru compositions of Cuban musicians from the XIX Century to our times; genres of the Cuban music, characterization and problems; danza and contradanza; danzon; son, rumba, salsa, timba, and jazz; Main characteristics, exponents, instrumental formats; musical links between Cuba and Europe; materialization of its nexus in the Cuban music from its origins to nowadays; links connecting Cuba and USA; its origins; manifestations and development in the Cuban music.
Features: The course will consist in Workshops and conferences; all classes will count with profuse audio-visual support.

[Yes, you can participate at different contests at the same time. Your name will be in the contest as many times as you register, this is an advantage for you to participate. It is taken into consideration all kinds of evening courses we offer.
